Meet Ludmila, who changed her career to something she was truly passionate about. Ludmila wants others to know it is never too late to change your career path and it is so important to do something that makes you happy.
“I had been working in childcare for 20 years and I wasn’t happy. I just wanted to do work that was enjoyable and I thought a medical career is good because you can find a job anywhere.
So I decided to research dental nursing. I knew nothing. I worried about whether I could actually study and pass an exam at my age – because you’re supposed to learn slower when you get older. I realised that was wrong. When you are older you may have more reason to work harder to achieve, you may have a better vision of what you want and you know your best learning style. I think you have a different attitude when you’re older. I realised I could do it!

It was easy to start. I found SmileWisdom Academy on Google -it is at the BDA and I knew they had to be very good. So I signed up over the phone with Becky who was so genuinely nice and very supportive. The team at SmileWisdom are so good – particularly at maintaining communication with students. Mike was always around and happy to check in on us. Liz and Ewa were excellent tutors.
I was able to find a job very easily and it is only 20 minutes from my house. It is a great practice and I still work there now after I have qualified as a dental nurse.
Since I have qualified I have taken additional courses with SmileWisdom, including the impression taking course and fluoride application course. Both were really good and very enjoyable.

The hardest thing to do is start, but do your research so you are mentally prepared. I am originally from Poland and I was worried about my ability to understand medical terms. I would advise anyone not to be scared of the language barrier. It is hard work but it is very doable. I love dental nursing! Go for it!”
